Texas Hold 'em

JoAnne and I have become somewhat addicted to Texas Hold 'em poker. We have two video games of it, and have found a few internet sites to play against other people. We have about 3 books on it, and we TIVO all the poker games and championships, and we TIVO the "learn from the pros" shows. Well a friend of ours told us they play with a group that gets together once a month to play. So JoAnne and I went Friday. There were 17 of us playing. Well, I couldn't catch a break, and was the 5th person out. But JoAnne was on a ROLL. After a few hours of playing, there were only 4 people of the 17 left...and yes, JoAnne was one of them. JoAnne was then dealt pocket 10's, and one of the other guys went all in, so JoAnne called. The other guy ended up with a flush and beat JoAnne. The guy that did it was the guy's house we played at. I told JoAnne it was probably good that she lost, because it would be rude to come into the guy's house and beat him the first time we were invited to play. But anyway,I was very proud of her coming in 4th out of 17. We will be playing again next month with them.JoAnne and I are going to Vegas in June, and we want to play texas hold 'em there, but are pretty nervous about that. I don't know if we will get the courage to do it.

Test Preparation

Well, I leave Sunday for San Antonio for a 3 day training course to prepare me for taking the state and national tests to get my nursing home administrator's license. I'm pretty nervous. I heard it is pretty intense, cramming a LOT of info into 3 days. But i'm more worried about the tests themselves, which I should be taking in June. I heard they are pretty hard, and given that I already have an administrator job at a nursing home, there's quite a bit of pressure to pass the tests. Please pray for a brotha! I'll be in class all day Mon-Wed, and will return home Wed. evening.

role of our President

Let me start by saying that I support President Bush, and I support the war on terrorism. I voted for Bush, and I would do so again if he were able to run again. But that's not what this blog is about.
My question is what is the role of the president. Regardless of my beliefs, the polls show that most Americans DISagree with the war in Iraq. But even with that, our president continues to send troops, because he believes it's the best thing for our country. So, here's my question....in our democratic/democracy government, is the president's role to do what the majority of the people he represents thinks he should do, or is it his role to do what HE believes is best for the country, regardless of what anyone else thinks? I'm not sure....

Pharmaceutical arguement

I got this email the other day from someone. What are your thoughts on this email? Agree? Disagree? Is this a valid argument?

A car company can move it's factories to Mexico and claim it's a free market. A toy company can out source to a Chinese subcontractor and claim it's a free market. A shoe company can produce its shoes in Southeast Asia and claim it's a free market A major bank can incorporate in Bermuda to avoid taxes and claim it's a free market. We can buy HP Printers made in Mexico . We can buy shirts made in Bangladesh . We can purchase almost anything we want from 20 different countries. BUT, heaven help the senior citizens who dare to buy their prescription drugs from a Canadian or Mexican pharmacy. That's called un-American and illegal and our politicians want to stop it! And you think the pharmaceutical companies don't have a powerful lobby? Think again! Forward this to every person you know over age 50. It is an interesting thought. Maybe this is an issue that should come up in the next election!

I (Jeff) would say this is not a valid arguement. "A" and "B" are not in the same catagory. A citizen buying meds from Canada isn't the same as a company getting their products made in another country, because that company is still selling the merchandice HERE. The same with the HP printers and clothes. It may have been made somewhere else, but it was taxed coming in by our government, and it is available to buy HERE, with prices set here.
I"m not saying whether or not I agree with buying meds in Canada, or if our healtcare system is good or bad...i'm just stating I don't think this is a good arguement.

housekeeper

About 3 months ago my wife and I decided to hire a housekeeper. So we have a great one that comes every other Monday to clean our house.
Well, today is her day to come, so that meant that yesterday my wife.......had to clean the house.
I just don't understand it. What is the point of paying a housekeeper if you are gonna clean the house before she gets there so she "doesn't think we are slobs". Are we trying to impress the housekeeper?? I just don't get it. WOMEN! I'll never understand them.

Contemporary Christian music

Now, everyone has their favorite genre/style of music. And I personally like all KINDS of music; including secular bands and Christian bands. Although, me personally, I don't like much of CCM. Not that it's bad or anything..it's just not my preference. But I have nothing against it.
But I've noticed how, somehow, CCM has been connected to the only true "Godly music" by much of our Christian society. I've read in a few Christian magazines, where after the mag wrote an article about a Christian rap or rock group, people writing in bashing the mag for writing about that "devil music". I've heard a lot of Christian parents say they won't let their children listen to Christian rock or rap, because their kids may like the sound of it, and decide to get into secular rock/rap. But doesn't CCM sound like secular pop? Is it ok for those same kids to get into Brittney Spears? I remember being in my church youth group, and was into many Christian rap/rock groups. But our youth minister challenged us to not listen to anything but CCM for a month, and see how "our relationship with God has changed". I understood taking a break from any secular music, but when asked if we could listen to other Christian genres, he said no, only CCM.
Now, my question is, how in the world was CCM industry able to get us as a Christian society to believe that it is the only "blessed" Christian music? And where did we get this belief that any music with a beat is bad, regardless of the lyrics?
