Now, everyone has their favorite genre/style of music. And I personally like all KINDS of music; including secular bands and Christian bands. Although, me personally, I don't like much of CCM. Not that it's bad or anything..it's just not my preference. But I have nothing against it.
But I've noticed how, somehow, CCM has been connected to the only true "Godly music" by much of our Christian society. I've read in a few Christian magazines, where after the mag wrote an article about a Christian rap or rock group, people writing in bashing the mag for writing about that "devil music". I've heard a lot of Christian parents say they won't let their children listen to Christian rock or rap, because their kids may like the sound of it, and decide to get into secular rock/rap. But doesn't CCM sound like secular pop? Is it ok for those same kids to get into Brittney Spears? I remember being in my church youth group, and was into many Christian rap/rock groups. But our youth minister challenged us to not listen to anything but CCM for a month, and see how "our relationship with God has changed". I understood taking a break from any secular music, but when asked if we could listen to other Christian genres, he said no, only CCM.
Now, my question is, how in the world was CCM industry able to get us as a Christian society to believe that it is the only "blessed" Christian music? And where did we get this belief that any music with a beat is bad, regardless of the lyrics?

I like Christian music, but I am more of a rock fan myself. I have found that bands like Skillet and Pillar are more for me than CCM. I am glad that there are some christian rock bands out there, because I really like music and it is so much easier to listen to the sound I want to listen to and to not have to worry about what my children are hearing. I believe that when they get old enough to decide what they want to listen to, I will not force anything on them. I will allow them to chose the sound that they prefer. However, I will have my ears open and if I do not like what I am hearing, I will put a stop to it then. Sometimes we need a little CCM in our lives. To lift us up or calm us down. I do not agree that it is the only music to listen to.
It was a white supremist/KKK plot. Really. The white people didn't want their white kids listening to black music, so they invented stories about rock 'n' roll being devil music. Many of these stories are still beleived today.
One story was about an African church leader that visited the US during the rock revolution. He claimed that the rock music beat was the same one that he had used to summon demons when he was a witch doctor.
Another story is about how Satan was the worship leader in heaven before he fell. They even had a verse in Ezekial to back it up. Even though that scripture was actually about the King of Tyre (and not a metaphor for the devil, as some claim), and it only said that he had a harp and tamborine. Not that he ever led anything.
So why CCM you ask? Business strategy. Convince the church your music is the only holy option, and you drive up profits. Pure and $imple.
But, anyway, pimpdaddy - what happened to your MySpace? I get on one day and everything about you was gone - comments, buletins, etc. Weird.
Yeah Matt, I totally agree CCM did it as a business move...but what perplexs me is HOW they were able to do it.
Anyway...myspace. I was tired of getting so much spam emails from porn sites...so I just deleted my account.
I was an insider in the CCM industry for a while. Those people don't actually believe that their music is the only kind.
Most CCM artists and executives listen to a mix of secular and CCM.
If you find me a quote from a CCM artist or exec who says that CCM is the only thing Christians should listen to, that person is an exception.
As far as what kind of music the individual believer listens to...
Christian Liberty Man! Learn to Love it!
I wasn't stating that CCM artist think that way....i'm saying a lot of the christian community have gotten to believe that...and where did that come from?
